Prime Minister Mark Carney has called urgent national byelections for three Canadian seats. Voters in Brantford-Brant, Ontario; Châteauguay-Lacolle, Quebec; and Esquimalt-Saanich-Sooke, British Columbia will go to the polls on August 31. Campaigning is now under way, with national parties selecting candidates and settling on strategies. The Conservatives have vowed to push federal probes on two top matters: construction oversight of the Gordie Howe bridge and Washington’s threatened tariff measures.
