A Sydney woman named Carolyn has become the first person in Australia laid to rest in a coffin made with mushroom material. The Guardian and the Sydney Morning Herald shared the story on September 7.
The coffin is produced using mycelium, the root-like network of fungi. It decomposes quickly and puts nutrients back into the earth. People in the funeral industry say that more Australians are today considering greener burial choices, beyond standard graves or cremation.
