Stargazers can now spot the opening Perseid meteors ahead of the primary display. The light show peaks in middle of August next year. Preliminary views will be tough, however. The glowing moon now washes out faint streaks. Head into darker hours near the high point. The best views come from dark sky spots beyond city lights. Clear nights could show up to a full hundred an hour at the most intense stretch.
