The crew of The Rookie has issued an apology for the abrupt cliffhanger ending to Season 8. The audience had been left in suspense after the closing scene dropped out. Creator Alexi Hawley revealed at a fan event that Season 9's opening will be expanded past the standard run. Nathan Fillion said that filming for Season Nine starts on the fifth of August. At the same time, a first look of a new scene shot in Chenford was shared online before the new season.
